Mieye2: A Candle Burns...For Whom and Why?

Mieye2: A Candle Burns... a Prayer for the New Year

Daughters of the World

Jyoti Singh Pandey  did not want to be a martyr. She, like any of our daughters, was looking forward to life, love and fulfilment.  But she lost her life, her future, her dignity most brutally to men who have lost all trace of humanity and have become worse than beasts.

Alarmingly, this crime is not uncommon nor is it restricted to India, as is apparent from the wave of fury that swept the world. It comes in the guise of many acts of violence against women. Domestic violence, a political weapon, ethnic cleansing…….

This was violent and criminal attack on a young woman but sadly it has stirred up a hornet’s nest of wider implications.

Here is an example-

"Here is the News"!
‘A man returning home from a night out with his friends is mugged, kicked & beaten and dies from his injuries a few days later’.

(There is sympathy, anger against the attackers and a wave of tut-tutting at the sorry state of society today).

 "More news----"!
‘A woman travelling home with her companion is gang-raped and brutalised. She dies from her injuries some days later’.

(There is sympathy, anger and then questions are asked about whom she was with, where had she been, how was she dressed and what she had done to bring this upon herself).

The woman’s trial begins long before and ends long after that of her attackers.  The attackers will be caught and punished but a woman continues to relive her pain time & again through her own ordeal as well that of thousands of others the world over - that is, if she survives.

Isn't this UNJUST!

Everyone has a view, an experience, a question on their lips?  What can we do to stop the atrocious crimes against women and against humanity from happening again and again, the world over?

Isn't it time for who care to lend their hearts, minds and voices to join millions of others who are Saying  STOP! May the strength of our combined voices hit these beasts where it really hurts!

Jyoti Singh Pandey – May her soul rest in peace because no-one else should, until justice is done and this wrong against womanhood and humanity be righted. Rape is a crime against humanity. Punish the criminal, not the victim.  Destroy the Crime.

A Candle Burns... a Prayer for the New Year

A candle burns in my heart and home.....

A candle burns in my heart and home, for those whose New Year will not mean a New Chance at Life. May its light show me the path to end this injustice.

May its warmth fill my heart with compassion and resolve to put right any wrongs that I can.

May my heart be strong yet compassionate.  May my mind be vast but remain focussed.

May I never forget the reasons why I lit this candle- this year...... this candle that burns in my heart and home.

One lifetime is not enough!

So much to see, hear, say & do!
One lifetime is not enough.
Is that why I am born a Hindu?

A child grows-up, surrounded by countless stimuli, picking and choosing what he/she needs to survive.
As consciousness and self awareness kick-in every new experience leaves its mark, embellishing or tarnishing this pure being.  Building memories, thoughts and  ultimately, character.

Why then do we, the guardians of these little treasures, overload them with our own pre-conceptions & experiences instead of listening to them; learning from them; being guided by them; protecting them through their first steps in this crazy world that we have created?  Are they not the closest beings to God?

Why then do we, in the twilight years of our lives, look back and remember the wasted potential, the missed opportunities the overspent resources, leaving us spent, exhausted and wishing for more time?

There is so much more one can do with this amazing life.  So many of us just stand in awe of it and miss the moment to 'act'. Others rush through and never even see what they are missing.  Finding a balance is the key.

My son & daughter feel that I have something to say and are encouraging me to blog.  So, guided my  cherished advisors, I am sharing some 'Reflections' with you.  Thinking aloud, so to speak!

I see it as 'forging' my thoughts in the fire of the Blog!

Measured and well-considered feedback is always welcome.
